Community Christmas Competition 2017

The numerical investigation into the drag coefficient of the Suzanne's head using OpenFOAM®

The first OpenFOAM® community challenge invented by Jószef Nagy. The following document contains a summary of the modeling and investigations by Tobias Holzmann. We all look forward to the next challenge that might be invented by József Nagy. Be part of the community and take part in the new challenges. Be aware that the competition is growing every year and the outcome is always interesting.

The competitions invented by József Nagy always inspire people and give new insight into OpenFOAM®

The following publication summarizes all necessary information about the OpenFOAM® training case that was generated during the Community Christmas Challenge Competition 2017. This particular document was submitted to József Nagy. The report is kept short but includes an overview of the process. Different topics were analyzed, such as the mesh generation, the used numerics, solvers, the convergence behavior, some simple quantitative result, and plots are shown as well as the time evolution of the drag coefficient is analyzed. Finally, a discussion of the expected results is presented. The OpenFOAM® case can be downloaded »here«.
