Face-To-Point Interpolation

OpenFOAM® offers the usage of interpolation classes that handle the information transformation from, e.g., face centers to face corner points. This method is used for free boundary conditions where the fluxes should be conserved concerning the mesh motion — keyword: shrinkage model for solidifying metals.

Knowing the classes of OpenFOAM® allows one to build powerful applications and libraries

The PDF document is related to the implemented Face-To-Point interpolation algorithm in OpenFOAM®. The investigation was done to build a shrinkage library for a solidification model. The idea was to calculate the entering fluxes and interpolate the face velocity to the points to get the information of the displacement at the points which are moved respectively by an appropriate mesh motion solver.
